Should HIAs be political?
Take a look at this opinion piece that draws on the health impact assessment of the Australian Federal Government's "Emergency Response" in the Northern Territory.
I'm not sure about should, but they (inevitably) do have a political element in a small or large way depending on what is being assessed.
I like the fact that HIA has some inherent and explicit values (which implies a certain 'politics').
I prefer the politics to come after the HIA rather than within it, though issues of power and the unequal distribution of power, are an important consideration in HIA (that we are not always good at describing/assessing/remedying).
